Highlight of the Project:
Aftermath of the Gorkha Earthquake, Samudayik Sarathi has carried following relief and reconstruction activities:
A. Relief work
i) SS helped Christian Aid Ministry (CAM), a Berlin, Ohaio, USA based organization, distribute tarps to 1600 households in Sindhupalchowk district.
ii) SS distributed relief package that included tarp and food items to 450 households in Sindhupalchowk district. The relief packages were purchased using financial assistance provided by the Asia Foundation and other individuals.
B. School Support Project: Christian Aid Ministry (CAM) with Samudayik Sarathi as local partner completed constructing 19 new school buildings including one for deaf pupil in Sindhupalchowk district (Maneshwara, Ghorthali and Choketi VDC) using GI sheets as primary construction material. SS provided local support (Coordination) and extended its expertise in social mobilization, and participated in the designing and planning of the program and provided logistic support.
Purpose: To support in increasing people participation in law making process, to promote rule of law, to strengthen democracy and political accountability through legislative discourse.

Highlights of the Program
1. Performed 855 (19 issues x 45 districts = 855) youth and women focused legislative town hall meetings;
2. 43210 individuals participated altogether;
3. Participants included youth from political parties and their sister organizations, youth clubs, NGO activist, CBOs, journalist, local stakeholders and other issue related organization;
4. 15 moderators and 15 reporters were mobilized for each town hall meeting.
5. Informal meeting among 50 youths is conducted in each district and their views were collected;
6. Meetings involved collecting opinion/recommendation through group discussion, group presentation, open floor (comments) using audio/video recording, note taking and meta-card collection etc.;
7. The recommendation and suggestion were documented and analyzed, and submitted directly to the concern stakeholders and to the public through press release/conference;
8. Report publication.
Purpose: To reduce corruption and malpractices and increase accountability and transparency in local service delivery by identifying the effectiveness of the social accountability tools such as participatory planning, public audit, Public Expenditure Tracking (PET), revenue monitoring, Right to Information (RTI), and media mobilization.

Nature of Assignment: Action research
Partners/Collaborators: This project was operated jointly in the leadership of Samudayik Sarathi (Leader), Freedom Forum, Nepal Forum for Environment Journalist (NEFEJ), Municipality Association Nepal (MuAN), and Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS).
Location: Five Municipalities (Dharan, Dhulikhel, Byas, Narayan and Bhimdatta)
Highlights of the program
1. Base line survey;
2. Key informant interviewees were from political parties, one key executive office/leader from each political party from each municipality;
3. Perception survey was conducted in 3 wards in each municipality on monthly basis.
Participants included 10 members of Ward Citizen Forum (WCF), 15 service receivers, and 5 municipality staffs from each municipality;
4. Time survey of executive officers;
5. Prepared and published training manual;
6. Provided training to Ward Citizen Forum (WCF), Municipalities, and Community Awareness Center (CAC) on social accountability tools such public audit, budget monitoring, Public Expenditure Tracking (PETS), etc.;
7. Case studies of three major projects run by each municipalities to identify whether these projects were implemented because of public demand or guided by political actor’s interest;
8. Other activities included town hall meetings on public awareness campaign on local governance system and compliance, media mobilization and right to information (RTI);
9. Social and media mobilization;
10. Human resources for the program involved five district coordinators, five researchers, five assistant coordinators, five assistant researchers, 45 RTI activists, 20 journalists and 5 Program coordinators;
11. Publication and submission of final report;
Purpose: To collect public opinion on proposed policies on issues such as national interest (security focus), form of government, federalism, and judiciary as prepared and collected by Constitutional Assembly Committees.

Highlights of the program
1. Provide support to community member in their search for employment;
2. Provide support to the children, women and youths in their quest for better and meaningful life;
3. Support building a common platform where community members can share their resources including skill, experience and knowledge;
4. Campaign to make community members aware about the drawbacks of violence, drug use, and prostitution;
5. An early childhood development (ECD) center where 30 children of age 3-5 get opportunity to play, rest, learn, and feed: they are provided breakfast and day-meal;
6. After school program (ASP) that provides children with their homework and other co-curricular activities for 50 children;
7. A pre-school that caters to 10 children;
8. A mothers’ club with 25 members that provides mothers opportunity to rest, talk and share their experience: they are also provided family education;
9. A youth club that has 35 members conducts various capacity building activities for the youths;
10. Altogether there are 10 personnel working in these centers: they are focal person, center manager, caregivers, After School Program (ASP) coordinator, ASP teacher, dance training teacher, etc.

1. The household survey was conducted in Manohara slum settlement, 4 km east of Kathmandu: there were altogether 416 households in this settlement.
2. Thirty-two volunteers were mobilized for 3 days for survey purpose.

1. The survey included 138 respondents residing and working in 63 different locations in
Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.
2. Questionnaire was constructed around migrants’ job, income, work environment, living condition, access to information technology, family size, etc.
3. Seven volunteers and staffs were mobilized to conduct the survey and data.
4. The final findings/report was presented in a seminar in the presence of non/government officials, journalists, professionals, labor activists, and international communities in Kathmandu.
